Filoteca for Windows runs on 64-bit Windows 10 and 11. There are two ways to use it and one optional service.
What to download
At filoteca.com/download you will find:
| Download | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Download for Windows (installer, about 109 MB) | The normal installation: it creates the “Filoteca” shortcut and updates itself. |
| Portable version (no install) (about 109 MB) | Nothing to install: you run it straight from the file. Handy on a USB drive or on a PC where you do not want to install anything. |
| Filoteca Hub for Windows (optional, about 43 MB) | A service that keeps working while the app is closed: it records scheduled channels, syncs your devices and shares folders over the network. It is installed separately. |
Install
- Download the installer and open it.
- If Windows shows “Windows protected your PC” (SmartScreen), click “More info” and then “Run anyway”. It appears because the installer does not yet carry a recognised publisher certificate; always download the file from filoteca.com.
- The wizard lets you choose the installation folder. It installs for your user only, so it does not need administrator permissions.
- Finish the wizard and open Filoteca from the Start menu.
First launch
Accept the terms, follow the welcome tour and add your first source (First launch, Adding a source). On Windows you control it with the mouse and keyboard, but you can also use your phone as a remote.
Updating
Filoteca checks for new versions when it opens (at most once a day). To do it manually: Settings → More → About → Check for updates. If there is a new version, the app downloads it, checks that the file is the right one and reinstalls itself. Your data is not touched.
Uninstalling
Like any Windows program: Settings → Apps → Filoteca → Uninstall. The portable version is removed by deleting the file.
