Offline downloads

Download movies and episodes to watch offline: how, where they are stored and what limits they have.

Downloads save a movie or an episode on the device so you can watch it offline.

How to download

  • Movie: open its detail page, then menu ⋯ → “Download”.
  • Episode: the download icon next to each episode.

The status changes between “Queued”, “Downloading”, “Paused”, “Waiting for connection” and “Downloaded”.

Where to watch them

In Downloads: the icon in the top bar (Windows, TV, tablet) or your photo menu (phone). Each download lets you “Watch offline”, “Pause”, “Resume download”, “Cancel download” and “Delete download”. Once about 24 MB have downloaded you can watch it right away, while it downloads, if the format allows it. If there is no connection when you open the app, it starts straight in Downloads.

Where they are stored

With the “Save to” selector:

  • Android and TV: the app's memory, a USB drive or a card, or a folder you choose with the system picker.
  • Windows: a folder on the disk (“Choose a folder on disk…”).

Anything already downloaded stays where it is when you change location.

Limits

  • One download at a time, and the app keeps 300 MB free.
  • Keep Filoteca open while it downloads.
  • Titles that the provider streams in segments cannot be downloaded (“This title is streamed in segments and cannot be downloaded”).
  • Downloads stored on the phone cannot be cast to Chromecast.
  • On a kids profile, only downloads made from that profile are shown, and titles above its age limit are not downloaded.
  • The web demo does not support downloads.
  • No licence is required, although with your own sources a title still counts towards the allowance when played (the beta and the licence).

If it fails

“The provider did not return a video” means it answered with a notice or some text instead of the video (expired account, no free connections or a dead link). See Playback problems.
