FILOTECA

Terms of use

Version 1.0 · Last updated: 22 October 2026

These terms govern use of the filoteca.com site, the Filoteca app (in its versions for Android, Android TV, Fire TV and Windows) and associated services (accounts, licences, support and downloads). By installing, activating or using Filoteca you accept these terms and confirm that you are 18 or older. If you do not agree, do not use it.

1. Who provides the service

The service is provided by Alfredo García ("we"). Contact: support@filoteca.com. More details in the Legal notice.

2. What Filoteca is and is not

3. Your sources and your responsibility

You alone are responsible for the sources you connect and for having the right to watch, and where applicable download or record, their content. By using Filoteca you declare that you have that right and agree not to connect sources whose use is unlawful. We do not verify the content of sources or its legality. Your provider credentials are yours and you must not share a licence or account with third parties in a way that breaches that provider's conditions.

4. Acceptable use

5. App versions

5.1 App without a licence

The app can be installed at no cost. Filoteca does not currently offer a free version as a separate option: during the beta the licence is granted at no charge (section 5.4). While there is no active licence on your device (before you request it, or once the beta ends), the app works with limits: (a) public channel lists by country and the "Classic cinema" selection have no quota; (b) with your own sources you can watch up to 5 channels, 2 movies and 2 series. A title counts towards the quota once you have watched it for a short time (about 20 seconds of actual playback) and from then on it remains yours. These quotas may change in the future; changes will not affect titles already counted.

5.2 Premium licence

The Premium licence removes those quotas for your own sources and enables additional features (Filoteca Connect, syncing between your devices, more than two profiles, and interface styles and colours); that list may grow. During the beta it is granted free of charge (see section 5.4) and consists of a personal key that you activate on your devices. Filoteca does not currently charge for any licence. What is granted is the right to use the player with your own providers and lists; no content is provided. There are two licence levels: Individual, for 1 device and without the features that need several devices (Filoteca Connect, "Watch on…" and sync between devices), and Premium, for up to 3 devices at a time and with all features. Additional devices can only be added to a Premium licence. You can release a device from Settings → Licence to use it elsewhere. The licence is personal, non-exclusive and non-transferable and may not be resold or shared outside your devices. If a paid option were ever offered, we would tell you beforehand, you would not be charged without expressly accepting it, and it would not affect licences already granted.

5.3 Licence revocation

We may revoke a licence, after notifying you where possible, if it was obtained fraudulently, if it is shared or resold in breach of these terms or if the law or an authority requires it. With a revoked licence the app is left without a licence (section 5.1).

6. Installation, requirements and updates

7. Accounts (server-connected app)

To use the server features you may need an account, accessed with a Google account or with email and password, which may be invitation-only. You are responsible for the activity of your account and household profiles; keep your credentials secret. The kids profile is an app convenience, not an age check: controlling what minors watch is the account holder's responsibility. You can delete your account and data at any time from the app; see the Privacy policy.

8. What Filoteca's server does

9. Recordings and downloads

10. "Classic cinema"

A selection of films hosted by Internet Archive that are presented as public-domain or freely licensed. They play directly from archive.org: your device connects to that service, which receives your IP address. Rights status may vary by country; if you believe a work should not be offered, tell us under section 14.

11. Advertising

Filoteca does not show ads. If that changes, we will tell you beforehand and, where the law requires it, ask for your consent.

12. Support

Premium licence holders (standalone app) or account holders can send enquiries from the app through problem or idea tickets. For reasonable use there are caps per licence or account (currently: 3 open tickets at a time, 2 new per day, 8 per month and 5 replies per ticket), which may change. We reply in the app and by email, with no guaranteed time: 2 working days. You may voluntarily attach technical data from your device.

13. Availability, changes and warranties

14. Suspension, takedown and rights complaints

We may suspend or close an account or licence that breaches these terms, or when required by law or a rightful third party. If you believe any content or use infringes your rights, write to abuse@filoteca.com saying what and why (see section 6 of the Legal notice).

15. Intellectual property and third-party software

We grant you a personal, limited, revocable, non-exclusive and non-transferable licence to use the app. The app includes open-source components (including Framework7, hls.js and Media3/ExoPlayer) subject to their own licences; the list and licence texts are available at request them at support@filoteca.com. Third-party names are used for descriptive purposes only. Trakt is a trademark of Trakt, Inc.; Filoteca is not affiliated with or endorsed by Trakt. Connecting your Trakt account is optional, requires your own account and your own app (Client ID) and is governed by Trakt’s terms, which limit its service to personal, non-commercial use; Filoteca is not responsible for what Trakt does with your data or for its service changing or becoming unavailable.

16. Personal data

The processing of your data is described in the Privacy policy.

17. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. When a change is significant we will tell you in the app or by email and, if needed to keep using an account, you will be asked to accept the new version. Continuing to use the service after the notice means accepting the changes, without prejudice to your rights as a consumer.

18. Governing law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by Spanish law. If you are a consumer, the mandatory rights of your country of residence within the European Union apply to you. For any dispute, the parties submit to the courts of Cádiz, unless the law establishes a different mandatory forum.
