General questions
Does Filoteca include channels, movies or series?
No. Filoteca is a player: you connect your own sources. It only includes access to public lists (digital terrestrial TV, radio, public-domain classic cinema and channels by country). See What is Filoteca.
Is it on Google Play or the App Store?
No. On Android and Fire TV it is installed from an APK file and on Windows with an installer, always from filoteca.com/download. There is no app for Samsung (Tizen), LG (webOS), Roku, Apple TV, iPhone or iPad.
Does it cost anything?
Filoteca is currently in beta and you can request a Premium licence at no cost, with no card and no automatic renewal (the beta and the licence). Without a licence, the app works with limits.
Do I need an account?
No. Everything is stored on your device. For the licence you use a key that arrives by email.
Is my data lost when the beta ends?
No. The app goes back to having no licence, but you keep your profiles, lists and settings.
Can it be used on several devices?
The beta key works on 2 devices. With “Free this device” you move it to another one.
Sources
Where do I get lists or accounts?
Filoteca does not tell you where to get lists or accounts, nor does it provide them. Only use sources whose content you have the right to watch.
Can I have several sources at once?
Yes, as many as you like. One is the main one and the others are added to the catalogue; duplicates act as a backup (How to add a source).
Does it work with my Jellyfin, Emby or Plex server?
Yes, for movies and series (guide). Live channels come from M3U lists, Xtream, Stalker or tuners.
Features
Can I record channels?
Not yet: the feature is marked “Coming soon” in the published versions.
Can I watch offline?
Yes, with Downloads (guide), if the provider allows it.
Can I use my phone as a remote?
Yes, with Filoteca Connect (a Premium feature; guide).
Are there parental controls?
Yes: a kids profile, a maximum age and a PIN for adult categories (guide).
Does it work with Chromecast?
Yes, from the Android phone app (guide).
Privacy
What data does Filoteca send?
The minimum needed to work. Anonymous statistics (how many times each feature is used) are sent with no titles, addresses or personal data and are on during the beta. See Data and privacy and the privacy policy.
Who sees what I play?
What you play comes from your sources and the service that provides them; Filoteca does not keep your history on a server.
